Minimal hardware requeriments for thin client terminals: Processor: x86 +100Mhz RAM: 16MB (min) (8MB using TinyX) Video card: All supported by XFree86 3.3.6 SVGA, Xorg, or by SVGALib. Network cards: Realtek 8139, NE2000, EEPro100, Davicom 910x, SiS900, VIA, 3Com 905/ 59x, etc (see build.conf). Support ======= There are several options available for support: 1. There are many useful contributed docs at http://thinstation.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/ThDocs. 2. "The FAQ" is an excellent source of useful information and is regulary updated. The FAQ is available at http://thinstation.sourceforge.net/faq.html. 3. If the first two options don't help you solve your problem, you can write to the thinstation-general mailing list. In the email, specify: - Which version of Thinstation you are using. If it is a beta, be sure you are using the LATEST beta available. - Which boot method you are using (e.g. etherboot, pxe, cdrom, etc.). - Thin client specs (e.g. ram, video card, NIC, etc.). - Which software you are using on the server for dhcp/tftp. - Include the relevant details from your "build.conf" file. - Include the relevant details from your "thinstation.conf.network" file. You can subscribe to the thinstation-general mailing list here: http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/thinstation-general Build ===== 1. Edit "build.conf" file. 2. Edit the files in conf/ that you'll be using in your Thinstation image. 3. Run "build". Note: You can optionally edit packages/base/etc/thinstation.defaults for any built-in defaults you want Thinstation to have. Installation ============ For installation instructions on the various boot image types, please see Documentation/README.IMAGE, where IMAGE is your prefered image type. PKG packages: To select which pkg packages must be loaded after boot, you must set the PKG_PACKAGES variable in the build.conf file. The .pkg or files must be put in the same directory where the .nbi image resides. This can reside in a directory underneath this if the PKG_PREFEX is set. See thinstation.conf.example file for details. pkg files may now also be stored on a local storage device if used in combination with the PKG_PATH variable. MOD packages: To select which mpkg packages must be loaded after boot, you must set the MOD_PACKAGES variable in the build.conf file. The .mpkg or files must be put in the same directory where the .nbi image resides. This can reside in a directory underneath this if the MOD_PREFEX is set. See thinstation.conf.example file for details. mpkg files may now also be storage on a local storage device if used in combination with the PKG_PATH variable. Configuration Files =================== Configuration files used during build time: Name: thinstation.conf.buildtime Type: Build time settings. Info: These settings go directly into the image at build time. Note that if you use local storage for your settings, you will need to define the STORAGE settings in here. These configuration files are used with tftpd and thus must be placed in the root tftpd directory (defined in build.conf). Not all are required. Name: thinstation.conf.network Type: General network confirguration file. Info: This is the global configuration file downloaded from a tftp server. Note that this has replaced thinstation.conf. Name: thinstation.conf- Type: Per thin client network configuration file. Info: Individual configuration files for specific thin clients. This file must be used in conjunction with the thinstation.hosts file. Example: thinstation.conf-tc1 Name: thinstation.conf- Type: Per thin client network configuration file. Info: Individual configuration files for specific thin clients. Example: thinstation.conf-172.23.24.101 Name: thinstation.conf- Type: Per thin client network configuration file. Info: Individual configuration files for specific thin clients. Example: thinstation.conf-005004AABBCC Name: thinstation.conf. Type: Group network configuration file. Info: General configuration settings for a specific group of thin clients. The groups themselves are defined in the thinstation.hosts file. Example: thinstation.conf.group-samba Name: thinstation.conf.user Type: Local configuration file. Info: This is stored locally on a permanent storage device, such as a CDROM, HD, FD, etc. Name: thinstation.hosts Type: Network configuration file. Info: List individual thin client hostnames, their MAC addresses, group memberships, and comments. The following files use thinstation.hosts: thinstation.conf. thinstation.conf- thinstation.conf- Name: ssh_known_hosts Type: Network configuration file Info: If this file exists, it will be download and added to the known_hosts file for use by ssh. This file is recommended when using the NX client to avoid "The authenticity of host 'XXX' can't be established" messages.
